Lake Tahoe Snow and Ski Forecast
The Lake Tahoe Snow and Ski Forecast has given us a great reason to be thankful. Thanksgiving 2019 in Lake Tahoe is kicking off with a winter storm and another to follow. Several area ski resorts are already open:
Alpine Meadows Open as of November 15th
Squaw Valley Open as of November 15th
Mt. Rose Ski Resort Open Now (Friday to Sunday)
Boreal Mountain Resort Open as of November 22nd
Heavenly Mountain Open as of November 22nd
Others are opening at the end of November or beginning of December:
Northstar California Opening November 29th
Sierra at Tahoe Opening November 29th
Sugar Bowl Opening November 29th
Homewood Mountain Resort Opening December 12th
Diamond Peak Opening December 12th
A few days before Thanksgiving, our first big winter storm is moving in, with snow levels starting around 4,000 feet and at times, falling below 2,000 feet. This will give the mountains a nice base of 2 to 3 feet and up to 20 inches at lake level.
As the storm clears out on Friday, another storm is expected to come into California by Saturday.
If you are planning to drive up for the Thanksgiving holiday, you should leave no later than Tuesday November 25th. "You'll want to avoid traveling on Wednesday and Sunday because of moderate to heavy snow," according to ABC7 News. "Brace for slippery conditions on the road."
You can check road conditions here. You will either need to be in a four wheel drive vehicle or have chains on your tires. It is always a good idea to carry water, blankets, boots and a shovel in the event of road closures or a spin out.
The last few winters at Lake Tahoe have brought us an abundance of snow, which is always fantastic for Lake Tahoe home sales. The inventory has been growing this year and there are many great value opportunities to finally buy that home at Lake Tahoe and Truckee that you’ve always wanted.
